The Maps of Middle‑earth
Hardcover map book
$ 70
A hardcover map book featuring my Beleriand, Middle‑earth, and Shire maps, adapted for close reading in a smaller, more practical form.
This book came from wanting to have the maps near me while reading Tolkien. A large wall map is beautiful, but it is not always convenient. You do not always want to leave a comfortable chair to check a place on the wall, and not everyone has room to hang a large print. This book is a way to keep the maps close at hand.
The maps inside are the same maps as my standalone wall prints: the Beleriand Map, the Middle‑earth Map, and The Shire Map, but adapted for the page. Beleriand and Middle‑earth are shown at twice the scale of the wall maps, so the terrain and labels can be studied more closely. The Shire remains at its original scale, because it was already made for a closer view.
Everything was adjusted for readability. Each map section has generous margins, page navigation, and overlap with the surrounding pages, so the maps can be followed from one spread to the next without losing your place.
It is a little like a street atlas for my maps: made to browse, consult, and keep beside the books.
The book also includes an overview map showing the major places and how the separate sections relate to one another. This makes it easier to move between Beleriand, Middle‑earth, and the Shire without losing the larger sense of the world.
It is a sewn hardcover book that opens almost completely flat, so the maps can be viewed properly across the spread. The soft-touch laminated cover gives it a quiet, premium feel, and the format is slightly larger than the HarperCollins Deluxe Tolkien editions.
Unlike my wall prints, this book is not printed by me in my studio. A sewn hardcover book has to be produced differently, so it is commercially printed and bound in Denmark. Commercial printing cannot quite reach the quality I can achieve with my own fine‑art prints, but this is still a beautiful book, with strong sharpness, contrast, and colour.
This was an expensive print run for a one-person business, especially at this quality. I am not yet sure whether I will be able to offer it again, so for now it is available while stock lasts.

I received a handwritten letter along with the book and I cannot express how happy I am with the book. It is a lovely piece of art. I like to look at the maps and let my mind wander into the stories that Tolkien had written all those years ago. It is worth the money!

I absolutely love the Middle Earth Maps in Book form. If you are having any doubts to the quality of this, they are the best at detail than any other Middle Earth Maps. Worth every penny and shipping was amazingly fast. Buy with confidence and enjoy.

This book of maps is stunning, and after seeing the quality of the larger maps I knew I had to purchase it. It’s laid out superbly clearly and the details are amazing. Incredible gift for any Tolkien fan in your life.

Having been a fan of the whole Tolkien legendarium for many decades, I am delighted and greatly impressed by the maps Rinus has made. One could use them just as they are. Splendid. What a beautiful world.
Original review, in Dutch
“Als fan van het gehele Tolkien-epos reeds voor tientallen jaren, ben ik blij en zeer verrast met de kaarten die Rinus heeft gemaakt. Je zou ze zo kunnen gebruiken. Prachtig. Wat een mooie wereld.”
