Beleriand & Middle‑earth Map

A massive Beleriand and Middle‑earth map print, showing the lands of the First and Third Ages as one continuous shaded‑relief landscape.
This is my largest map: a combined map of Beleriand and Middle‑earth, made in the same style and at the same scale as my individual Beleriand Map and Middle‑earth Map. It is 1.5 metres wide (about 60 inches) and is meant as a serious wall map rather than a small reference sheet.
Although it includes the individual Beleriand and Middle‑earth maps, this was made as its own composition. A map at this size needed its own working process: starting again from the existing base layers and rebuilding the whole piece in the same layered way as the other maps, so the final print would read as one continuous landscape rather than two separate maps placed together.
The Beleriand side of the map shows the western lands as they were in the First Age, before Beleriand was broken and much of it lost beneath the sea. The Middle‑earth side shows the later lands of the Third Age. Over this continuous landscape, I have included an outline of the later western coastline, so the map can show both the First Age land and the later shape of the world at the same time.
What I like about this map is that it answers a question many Tolkien readers eventually have: how do Beleriand and the later Middle‑earth fit together? It does not pretend that all these lands existed in this form at the same time. Instead, it places the First Age and Third Age geography together at the same scale, so their relationship becomes easier to see.
Tolkien’s geography was never really finished, and Beleriand in particular was never settled into one final, simple form. This map is still an interpretation, but one made with the aim of staying close to Tolkien’s own line of thought rather than inventing a tidier world.
This Limited Edition is printed on a beautiful archival paper, the same 100% cotton paper used for all my Limited Edition maps. It has a smooth matte surface that is not subject to glare, so you can hang it pretty much anywhere. This map is limited to only 100 prints, signed and numbered. I print each one myself in my studio in Sweden and check it carefully before I ship it.
For those who prefer the classic black-and-red style of the maps included in the books, I also made a separate Classic Map version of this combined map.
